This can be a tough problem to track down sometime. The first thing to
do is to disable the watchdog (which is what most likely is resetting
the CPU) and see what happens. There should be a pushtab on the board
labeled "WDDIS", tie this to ground via a cliplead. The watchdog is a
small circuit that is basically a counter. If it is not reset within a
certain time period it will automatically reset the processor by pulling
the /RESET line temporarily low. When the CPU is running properly it
will always reset the
Watchdog before it 'barks'. So, with the watchdog disabled, your CPU
will
Stay running no matter what problems it runs in to, unless it actually
crashes and starts running garbage. You should disconnect your monitor
and probably use an oscilloscope to view the vectors as if the CPU does
run into a problem, you may have outputs from the DAC's that could
damage the deflection circuit on the monitor.
If the game runs fine without the watchdog, then you can guess that
the problem is with the watchdog. More likely tho, you will find that
the game crashes at a certain point, hence the resets.
Good luck.
