Well, that was easy. Just ran down to the electronics surplus
store (close to work) and picked some up off a bulk spool for
$0.22 per foot.
There appears to be at least 1/16" thick insulation surrounding
the wire and it feels like silicone, as Rodger said (very flexible
and rubbery).
