Great tips, thanks ! Checked VR1 & VR2 and they are fine. Will replace the caps around them.
Still need to check the diodes. Yes I especially replaced C100 and C101 with brand new one's. I steered clear from cap-kits because from now I want to use well-known brands AND 105 degr. versions. Also, as you mention I always found it _extremely_ weird that the cap-kits skip the most important one's just to keep the kit price low....
There's no added ground-lead, I actually thought of trying one but haven't done so far.
Text color, the emulated on line game on Atari's site confirms the light blue letters, so I was right about that. Colors are adjusted fine.
Cheers, André

I had a board with this fault and replacing the two regulators fixed the problem. Also good to do is replace the caps around these two regs (C111, C121 & C110).

An open diode will result in halfwave rectification instead of fullwave and this will result in a lot more ripple on the DC power supply lines. If you haven't already, replace C100 and C101 (4700uF, 50V). A lot of standard cap kits do not include them because they are the largest and most expensive ones. They are very important however. I have posted an extensive replacement parts here:

If removing the extra wire solved the problem, there are better ways to beef up the ground connection such as replacing the existing terminals in the original harness connectors with new gold ones.
