<AOL>Me Too</AOL> again. It looks like the back of the board
is just a bus that connects all of the boards. Ditto for several
of these types of systems, including the raster Sega stuff, the
Midway (Gorf/WoW/SpaceZap) stuff, and the weird platform used in
Stern's "Astro Invader".

As long as we're off topic, <AOL>Me Too</AOL>. Anyone else know much
about hacking Sun hardware?

I have an old Sparc ELC with a fried monitor that I'd like to fix.

The box emits a high-pitched screechy-warbly sound, and displays
no video. There's a scorched area of PCB on the HV board which is
probably the problem, as the same area of the board is unburnt on
the SLC, which uses a nearly-identical monitor.

The problem appears to center around a burnt transistor. Looking at
the board from the component side, the flyback transformer is near the
lower-left corner, and the burnt transistor is be near the group of
capacitors (i.e. CX309 and friends) in the upper-right corner. It
appears to be part of the circuitry which drives the "CRT" line to
the neck board.

The transistor is marked with a logo of an "M" with a squarish line
around it, and the numbers "112" and "1187". Markings are as follows:

  .-.
  |M| < The "M" does *NOT* look like Motorola's "M".
  `-'
 1 2 1
 1187
 P 03 < The "3" is underlined and superscripted.

The transistor on the other unit's HV board is marked identically,
except that "P 03" is "P 15". I'm presuming this is the date code,
and that the part number is therefore 121-1187. But I've never seen
the "M-with-a-rounded-edged-square-around-it" logo before, and don't
have a clue who the manufacturer is.

If you could tell me what this component is, or point me in the direction
of someone who could, it'd be greatly appreciated.

Later,
Doug.
