I worked on a 6100 a couple of months ago that was crackling. Inside the
HV cage I found a badly burnt resistor, can't remember which one, but it
was totally blackened. Originally I had written the crackling off to that,
until I believe someone here or on rgvac posted that they had a cap inside
the cage that had gone bad and was crackling.
Either way, if you do some p.m. inside the cage it will probably clear
up. I replaced the resistor while doing a rebuild on the monitor, so
there's no telling which one was crackling. I used Bob Robert's 6100 cap
kit, and 6100 additional parts kit. The resistor that burned was not
included in those kits, so I just picked some up locally.
