You're better prepared than I. I just wander around Home Depot and look for
something big and snarly-looking and then ask if it'll safely run about
twice what I planned on hooking up to it-- if they say "yes" it's a keeper!

I know I've seen some power sequencers for this exact "problem" before...
Maybe www.smarthome.com? (EricC might know-- he does home-automation stuff
too.) Basically they sequence all the outlets "on" at some time interval
(maybe 0.5-2.0 seconds each) when the "go" switch is closed so there isn't
too huge of load dropped on the circuit all at once.
