I hate to sound like an ad, but we sell (as do others) a neat little kit
for that very purpose. Designed by Bob Parker in Australia and sold by Dick
Smith Electronics, it is designed to tell the condition of a flyback (LOPT)
or HV transformer by counting the number of rings, and it checks it
in-circuit. Available in a search on http://www.google.com look for Flyback
test kit and several shall pop up...Schematics are on our site if you want
to build you own out of some old Cmos parts lying around the ship.
